POOLE will have two high profile guests at their Elite League clash with Lakeside next Wednesday.Boxing hero Joe Calzaghe, who won all 46 of his professional fights, will be in attendance along with legendary six-times world champion Ivan Mauger.Pirates chief Matt Ford said: "We will be making this a special occasion and Joe has even organised to donate some signed gloves that we will be giving away in a lucky programme promotion."I really hope the sporting people of this area will come along and meet Joe, whilst not forgetting that we have the six times world speedway champion Ivan Mauger in attendance too that night."It's not often there is a chance to meet one legend, next Wednesday there will be the chance of meeting two for the price of one!"

SWINDON cranked up the play-off pressure with a thrilling 50-43 win over Eastbourne at the Abbey Stadium thanks to a stunning last gasp move fromSimon Stead.Stead notched 13-points from five outings including a vital victory in Heat 15 to hand the Robins maximum points.Boss Ronnie Russell said: "The belief is in the squad that we can make the play-offs, we'll carry that spirit into our two tough looking meetings at Wolverhampton and Peterborough next week."

COVENTRY boss Alun Rossiter insists he hasn't given up hope of a play-off place after seeing his side beat Lakeside 51-41 at Brandon.Chris Harris and Richard Sweetman both notched 11+1 for the Bees who lost Lewis Bridger through injury after his first ride.Rossiter said: "I feel a lot more upbeat with that performance, I'd been disappointed with the lacklustre way we gated especially last week, but that was a hundred times better."It was good to see that Edward (Kennett) was much more like how he shouldbe tonight, and if we can get him going we may still have an outside shot for the play-offs. It's a long shot, but we have to have that belief."

FREDDIE Lindgren warmed up for Saturday's British Grand Prix in Cardiff with a 13-point haul for Wolverhampton in their 46-44 win at Ipswich.The result cements the reigning champions' second spot in the Elite League and keeps Ipswich bottom.Wolves boss Peter Adams said: "This team has done fantastically well this season, for us to lose a rider like Peter Karlsson during the winter and yet sit second in the table in July is a real credit to them."

MARK Lemon roared to a 15-point maximum as Newcastle finally laid their Sheffield bogey with a 47-43 win at Owlerton.Boss George English said: "At last a Newcastle Diamonds side has come here and ridden to their full potential. They were excellent tonight and thoroughly enjoyed this match, providing us with the first such win here for many a long season."Mark was superb and he was completely untouchable and with Kenni (Larsen)in sparkling form too it set us up beautifully for tonight's Pairs Championship at Somerset."
