MOTOR racing enthusiasts are in for some blistering action this weekend (July 17/18) when the Cooper Tires British F3 International Series & Avon Tyres British GT Championship heads to Rockingham.
Some of the world’s best young driving talents go head-to-head as the first-half of the 2010 British F3 season comes to a close after a hugely competitive and exciting start, which has produced six different race winners from four teams.
Among the stars of the future battling to be the best racing driver of their generation will be Rockingham-backed William Buller, who will be looking to make home advantage count for his team, Hitech Racing.
The Northamptonshire-based Ulsterman has made a brilliant transition from junior single-seaters to British F3 this season, despite being one of the youngest drivers in the field at the age of 17.
Buller scored his maiden podiums in France and took a second place behind championship leader Jean-Eric Vergne last time out in Germany. The Frenchman will once again be the man to beat as he bids to become the first French champion of British F3 and the third in succession for the Carlin/Red Bull alliance.
Rockingham Director Charlotte Orton, said: “William is developing into one of the UK’s most promising young racing drivers and he will have tremendous support from the Rockingham crowd due to his links with the circuit.”
William isn’t the only member of the Buller family with ambitious plans on his mind. Alfred, his father, is one of Northamptonshire’s most vocal supporters and the driving force behind Priors Hall Park, which is sponsoring this weekend’s event.
The British GT Championship will also provide some thrilling action with glamorous supercars racing at breathtaking speeds. Supporting races include the Volkswagen Racing Cup, the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain, the BRSCC alfashop Alfa Romeo Championship and Ginetta Challenge.
On race day there will be plenty for all the family to enjoy, including children’s entertainers and the chance to get in the driving seat of Rockingham’s race simulators as well as a giant Scalextric track laid out like the Rockingham circuit. Grandstand seats and access to the paddock area are free.
