A Daytona Prototype. Over there... No, over here

Zak Brown’s DP set to cause a stir at Rockingham this weekend. Back in the last little European unpleasantness, Brits were often heard to suggest that servicemen from the US were “...overpaid, oversexed and over here.”

Which of the three caused most consternation is hard to tell.

Fast forward a mere 70 years and another well-fed American, in the shape of a thoroughbred racing car, will be over here at Rockingham Motor Speedway – billed as Europe’s fastest racing circuit – this weekend, for the British F3 and British GT.

The car is a Daytona Prototype, DP for short, owned by racer par excellence Zak Brown, who is also founder and CEO of Just Marketing International (JMI), the motorsports marketing agency.

British motorsports fans will be familiar with the DP following January’s successful race in the Rolex 24 At Daytona for Derek Johnston, winner of the inaugural Sunoco Rolex 24 At Daytona Challenge.

This year’s Sunoco Daytona Challenge is well underway. Drivers in four high-speed and Sunoco-fuelled series, British F3, British GT, Radical UK Cup and SPEED, are eligible to compete. Carlin’s Jean-Eric Vergne sits atop the standings for F3, while Mtech’s Matt Griffin flies the flag for GT in fourth.

Expect some changes to the standings this weekend – and plenty of interest around the Daytona Prototype.
