Snetterton hosts rounds seven and eight of the 2010 Porsche Club Championship on Sunday July 25th, the Norfolk circuit returning to the series calendar after a gap of three years. When the series visited in April 2007 it was a win apiece for the 964 C2 of James Neal and Mark McAleer’s 968 CS, so the circuit could be a level playing field for the front and rear-engined cars in 2010.
Current championship leader McAleer went on to claim the title at the end of the season, so possibly the busy Snetterton race day, with qualifying in the morning followed by two races, could be an indicator as to the destination of the 2010 crown. This season McAleer has claimed the first five race wins in his 968, coming through from tenth on the grid at Silverstone to take win number five, before Marcus Carniel finally broke his winning streak later that afternoon, the first win in 2010 for a rear-engined car.
While McAleer has been doing most of the winning, the action at the front has still been fierce, with the fast-starting Kevin Harrison always in the mix, as well as reigning champion Jez Clark, who has stepped up to Class One this season. Other to watch for are Pete Morris, getting quicker in his new 968, and Mark Sumpter, back in the 911 SC he campaigned in 1994.
The Porsche Club Championship Class Two runners should be running in their own race as part of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge race, and Chris Dyer has been the man to beat, often battling hard with Cieran Brewer, the pair taking a win apiece at Silverstone.
Qualifying at Snetterton is on Sunday morning at 10.45, with two 25-minute races in the afternoon at 13.30 and 15.55.
