(SPEEDWAY 1)NEWCASTLE have secured their first item of national silverware for nine years by overcoming Birmingham to win the Premier Trophy.The Diamonds carried a 22-point lead into Wednesday's second leg at Perry Barr but there was no let-up in their form as they won 46-44 on the night in front of a big crowd.Impressive Danish youngsters Kenni Larsen (12) and Rene Bach (11) led the way for the Brough Park side, who remain in contention for the other main Premier League honours this season.Team boss George English said: "This is one of the best moments of my time with the Diamonds, they all thoroughly deserve this fantastic success and we’re all so very proud of the lads bringing a professional sport’s trophy back to Tyneside. It’s been an amazing night for the club - truly amazing."

(SPEEDWAY 2)EDINBURGH gave an astonishing demonstration of strength with a 56-34 win at King's Lynn in the first leg of their Knockout Cup tie.The Norfolk Arena has been a fortress in recent years but the Monarchs got off to a flying start by providing the first five heat winners to go 21-9 up.Ryan Fisher was unbeaten from his first four outings before hitting machine trouble in Heat 15, which allowed the Stars a consolation 5-1.Monarchs boss John Campbell said: "Everyone will be amazed by this result.The whole team deserve great credit including Carl Wilkinson who was a brilliant guest for Kalle Katajisto."Edinburgh have also announced that Arlo Bugeja will come into their team at reserve on Friday to replace Cal McDade.

GREAT Britain coach Neil Vatcher says Friday's British Under-18 Championship at Somerset offers supporters the opportunity to see the next generation of stars on track.As the full national team prepare for Saturday's World Cup Final, the Oak Tree Arena stages an event previously won by Tai Woffinden, Daniel King and Lewis Bridger - all of whom have gone on to ride in the top tournament.The Somerset promotion have reduced their normal admission prices for the meeting to £10 for adults, £8 concessions and £4 children including a free racecard.Vatcher said: "You read and hear people bemoaning the perceived lack of British speedway talent, so here is an opportunity for them to get behind these kids and give them the support and encouragement they need and deserve."The Oak Tree Arena in a superb track and venue for these youngsters to showcase their talents, and having arranged a couple of under-15 second half meetings there already this year, I know how much the kids enjoyed riding there."

LOCAL rider Jason Garrity split Australians Nick Morris and Jake Anderson on the rostrum after an entertaining Belle Vue Junior championship at Kirkmanshulme Lane on Wednesday night.Morris won the title with 14 points while Droylsden-based Garrity, his teammate at Buxton, beat Somerset's Anderson in a run-off for second after the pair had finished level on 13.American Gino Manzares showed why he was one of the meeting favourites by winning his first two races but he crashed heavily in the next and withdrew from the meeting after damaging his lower back.Aces team boss Chris Morton said: "I was very impressed with the talent on view. Our track is not easy to come to if you aren't used to it and the way the youngsters handled it was a credit to them all."(FIXTURES)
