Porsche Carrera Cup GB starts second half at Snetterton

After a seven-week mid-season break, the Porsche Carrera Cup GB roars back into action next weekend (7/8 August) for rounds 11 and 12 at the Snetterton circuit in Norfolk. With nine wins from 10 races to date, Tim Harvey (Red Line Racing) is riding high and will take a 39-point overall lead to the East Anglian track. However, Michael Caine – racing at his home track – is one of the drivers determined to bring Harvey's winning run to an end. Meanwhile, the Team Parker Racing trio of Glynn Geddie, Euan Hankey and Stephen Jelley are all potential race winners.Despite his commanding lead, Harvey says that he is going to keep pushing for more wins. "The safest place to be is at the front," said Harvey. "So I'm just going to keep going on the same basis as I have for the first half of the season – to approach every session and every race trying to be in front."However, Caine (Motorbase Performance) is determined to stop Harvey winning again. "I love Snetterton," said Newmarket-based Caine. "We will have an awful lot of guests at Snetterton, because it is local and everyone who has helped me, past, present and future, will be there."Despite being his home track, Snetterton has not been great for Caine in recent seasons. "There are two circuits I love; Snetterton and Oulton Park. For the past few years they have been an absolute disaster for me, so I'm just hoping that Snetterton this year will be good."Hankey, Jelly and Geddie are all battling for third right now and each of them has the potential to win races, while other pro category drivers like Charles Bateman (Motorbase Performance), Tom Bradshaw (JHR) and Michael Meadows (Red Line Racing) are strong podium contenders. In pro-am1, Norfolk-based Ollie Jackson (Addison Lee Motorbase) has a slender seven-point lead over Jonas Gelzinis (Juta Racing) in a battle that is set to run all the way to the final race of the season. "Last year in the Porsche at Snetterton was a bit of a mixed bag, but the way my driving has come on this year, I think it's going to suit me more than it did last year," said Jackson. Other leading pro-am1 contenders include Tony Gilham (Collins ReDesign Racing) and Ahmad Al Harthy and Archie Hamilton from Red Line Racing. In the battle for pro-am2 Mark Hazell (JHR) has just a four-point lead over Glenn McMenamin (Red Line Racing) with George Brewster (Celtic Speed) chasing hard, so it is all to play for. Hazell returns to Snetterton fresh from a victory there in a recent GT3 Cup Challenge race, while young George Richardson (Motorbase Performance) also took a win in the second GT3 Cup Challenge race. With a superb 26-car field and the prospects of three battles within each race, it is going to be a great start to the second half of the season for the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.Carrera Cup qualifying is on Saturday at 14.45, with the first race at 9.10 on Sunday and the second race at 15.00. The second race is due to be shown live on ITV4 in the extensive BTCC race day programme, which starts at 11.30am.
