Formula Renault Rounds 11 and 12 saw Ollie really settle in with the Manor Team this weekend, the Norfolk tarmac of Snetterton was the setting for Ollie’s outstanding performance in his first season.
Ollie showed true form and took pole position in Qualifying 1. With confidence high in the Millroy/Manor pit, Ollie set out for the second qualifying of the day, bringing back a respectable 3rd place, ahead of all his other team mates.
In Race 1 Ollie got a very good start off the line, holding off second place man and team mate Will Stevens into the first corner. Ollie knew this was the time and his first real opportunity put the hammer down and treated the next 5 laps like qualifying, pulling out a 2.5 second lead over second place. After pulling out a gap Ollie eased off to preserve tyres for Race 2. Ollie was out in front until the chequered flag, taking home his first Formula Renault win for the season.
In Race 2, Ollie again had a good start and kept third going into the first corner, team mates Stevens and Williamson close behind in fourth and fifth. On the start of lap two, Ollie went along side second place into turn 1, but didn’t make it due to the car not engaging 7th gear, which now put him into the jaws of his team mates, Williamson passed with a clean manoeuvre with Stevens close in tow, Ollie had to yield otherwise all of the Manor cars would be in the scenery. Ollie, determined as ever and still charged from his race win, stayed with Stevens all race with less than a tenth of a second between them, but Ollie just didn’t have the pace from the previous race. Ollie finished a respectable 5th behind both his team mates.
Ollie commented, “Yeah, really happy with that, can’t ask for much more really can I? A pole and a win in Race 1, it just doesn’t get any better than that! Race 2 was a great race, but I went along side second place into turn 1, went to grab 7th gear, and it wouldn’t go in, so I stayed on the limiter in 6th which lost me that overtake, then Williamson and Stevens passing me straight after that, I managed to grab it a few times during the race but it was hit and miss but still, credit to my team, the car and this weekend has been mega!”
