Edwards puts Riders Harley on Brands XR1200 Trophy podium

Mike Edwards put the RidersMotorcycles.com Harley-Davidson on the podium in both of this weekend’s XR1200 Trophy races at Brands Hatch.Edwards battled with arch-rival and former GP racer Jeremy McWilliams in the two races and finished second in both to consolidate his second place in the championship.Edwards said: “The RidersMotorcycles.com Harley-Davidson is working really well. The XR1200s are great on the street but are long heavy bikes to use as racing machines but I can’t fault our bike’s handling or performance. The guys in the race shop have done a great job setting the machine up to suit me.“If anything we lacked a bit of top speed on the long fast Brands straights against Jeremy but get us to the next round at Cadwell Park, where it’s a much more technical track, and it’ll hopefully be a different story.” With three races left at Cadwell on Aug 28-30, the chances of snatching the title from McWilliams’ grasp are thin but not impossible. Edwards is 14 points adrift in the championship and really needs to win all three races to upset McWilliams’ title aspirations.Team owner Phil Jessopp said: “Mike may not have won at Brands but he played a major part in two closely fought races that the fans loved. Cadwell is going to be tough but Mike’s up for it and we’re looking forward to a really good showdown.”Edwards’s performance on the Harley meant that the RidersMotorcycle.com team celebrated no less than five podium finishes during the Brands race weekend. Michael Rutter took the team’s Ducati to a second place and two third places in the BSB triple-header and secured his place among the top six Title Fighters in the three-round Showdown for the British Superbike title.
