THE Vintage Sports-Car Club's Bob Gerard Memorial Trophy Race Meeting at Mallory Park on Sunday 22nd August is a dream day out for historic fans when more than 160 cars will be in action spanning some 60 years of motoring history.
The oldest car competing is a 1904 CGV in the Edwardian Race, whilst early 1960s Formula Junior racers will evoke memories of the heady days gone by with much more in between!
The Vintage Sports-Car Club was established in 1934 to promote the sport and pastime of motoring and today has more than 7,500 members and promotes around 35 competitive motor sport event annually. The Bob Gerard Memorial Trophy meeting at Mallory Park is a calendar highlight for the members who love the 'clubby' atmosphere of the circuit.
A programme of 11 races will keep spectators entertained all day. The feature race, the Bob Gerard Race for Pre 1961 front-engined Grand Prix Cars will see a well supported field of Grand Prix, Formula 2 and Formula 3 cars from a nostalgic era in action, including Bob Gerard's own Cooper Bristol. Another highlight is the Dick Baddiley Race for Edwardian cars- a unique spectacle which is not to be missed. There are also races for Formula Junior cars battling for the John Taylor Memorial Trophy, Pre-War Sports Cars, Vintage Specials and a Pre-war Austin 7 race.
There is a special parking area for spectators arriving in Pre-war cars as well as an autojumble and trade stands for bargain hunters.
The close, tight nature of Mallory Park makes for superb viewing and seeing these historic cars racing at their best. There isn't a better place in the world to watch vintage car racing and the circuit itself boasts some statues of racing heroes of yesteryear for fans to visit.
Camping is available on the Saturday night and prices to attend are £14 on the gate or £12 in advance. Vintage Sports-Car Club members tickets cost just £10 in advance. Children under the age of 16 are free to enter. See vscc.co.uk for further details on the event.
