Dyer heads the Field for Porsche Club Castle Combe Visit

Caste Combe in Wiltshire hosts round 11 and 12 of the 2010 Porsche Club Championship on August Bank Holiday Monday (August 30th), with Class B’s Chris Dyer heading the overall points table in his 944 S2. The racing has been close and exciting in both classes, with Marcus Carniel now the man on form in Class One, having won four of the last five races, after Mark McAleer was dominant at the start of the season.

McAleer won the first five races in his 969 CS, but Carniel took the first victory for a rear-engined Porsche at Silverstone in June and since then has been using the ability of his 964 C2 to be quick off the line to good effect. On his home circuit of Oulton Park earlier this month, Carniel took pole position and both race victories, to pull clear at the top of the Class One points. McAleer damaged his car at Snetterton in July, but roared back after just getting if finished for Oulton Park earlier this month to get on the podium in the re-fettled Porsche.

Other Class One racers to watch for include the always fast-starting Kevin Harrison, and Pete Morris, the only racer to break the Carniel – McAleer stranglehold on wins this season. Mark Sumpter returned to Porsche racing this season in his venerable 911 SC, and took a fine second place at Oulton Park, only to be eliminated in race two with a driveshaft failure when battling for his second podium of the day. Miles Maserati has been on the pace in his first season of Porsche Club racing, with Richard Ellis the best of the 993 runners.

Dyer has dominated Class two, but has been pressured in the races by Cieran Brewer, the ever improving Richard Bennett – and at Oulton Park by Tim Bates.

With two 25-minute races and a qualifying session on the Bank Holiday Monday, it will be a hectic day of exciting racing on the challenging Castle Combe circuit.
