Harvey Hits the Centenary with 101 Podiums in the Porsche Carrera Cup

Rounds 13 and 14 of the Porsche Carrera Cup, held last Sunday at Silverstone, saw Tim Harvey pick up his ground-breaking 101st podium finish in this closely followed competition. Two fiercely contested second places enabled the 2008 Porsche Carrera Cup champion, who is sponsored by Nationwide Accident Repair Services plc, to hold on to his lead in the series. With 282 points, Tim is now heading into the final three rounds of the championship with a clear 34 points between him and Michael Caine, who is in second place with 248 points.

However, the racing on Sunday wasn’t smooth sailing for Tim. A race-one battle for position over the first two corners led to contact between Tim and Caine’s  vehicles, putting Tim’s tracking out of line and allowing Caine to pull ahead of the field. Tim held on to his position for the remainder of the race, but struggled to achieve the pace shown in previous rounds with the damaged car.

Race two was no easier for Harvey as he was under serious pressure from the rest of the field for most of the race.  However, he was able to fend off the threat from Stephen Jelley (Team Parker Racing), who finished the race in third, and who is also third overall with 169 points.

"With six races to go every point is critical now but I am pleased with the result over the weekend, even though the pace was disappointing,” said Harvey.  “We’ve not got long before Knockhill so we will be looking into this before we head up to Scotland next week.”

Rounds 15 and 16 of the Porsche Carrera Cup Championship take place at Knockhill Racing Circuit, Dunfermline, Fife over the weekend of the 4th and 5th September 2010.

Nationwide is giving away two pairs of tickets the British Touring Car Championship event at Knockhill on Sunday 5th September in a free prize draw.
