Two positions in the points for Team Rosberg at the Nürburgring

Team Rosberg was deprived of a possible podium result on the sixth race weekend of the ADAC GT Masters at the Nürburgring. The Austrian-Dutch duo Bernd Herndlhofer/Christiaan Frankenhout was running in second place up to the 19th of 29 laps on Saturday when Reiter-Lamborghini driver Peter Kox collided with the Audi R8 LMS of the team based in Neustadt. In the end, Michael Ammermüller/Kenneth Heyer (Pocking/Wegberg) achieved two positions in the points: fourth place on Saturday and eighth place on Sunday. On Saturday, the team had a promising start. Christiaan Frankenhout managed an impressive maiden run in the series by clinching a strong second place on the grid. In the race he successfully defended his position up to the mandatory pit stop. Bernd Herndlhofer took over the Audi R8 LMS on lap 15. With a bold attack the leader of the standings, Peter Kox, was aiming to overtake Frank Kechele on the 19th lap and apparently failed to notice the Rosberg Audi. "I was in the middle of a battle with Sebastian Asch and Christopher Mies,” said Herndlhofer. "Peter Kox hit my rear right-hand wheel. I suppose he missed his braking point a little.” Damage to the bodywork and suspension forced the Audi to retire from the race. Kox was penalised for the incident and moved five places to the rear of the grid in round two. Michael Ammermüller/Kenneth Heyer showed a strong race after having started from grid position 14. On the first three laps Heyer improved up to eleventh place. After the end of the pit stop the Audi R8 LMS #7 was running on position nine. Ammermüller pushed forward to fourth place up to seeing the chequered flag. Team Rosberg finished the race as the second-best Audi team in the field. "’Well done’ to Christiaan on his successful first race,” praised Team Director Arno Zensen on Saturday. "He immediately qualified for the first row on the grid. That was particularly nice for the whole team because they deserved a good result. He drove a very good first race. Bernd Herndlhofer was running well, too, and got out in front of the Abt squad, but Peter Kox’s braking point was simply unrealistic.”Michael Ammermüller tackled the second round from fifth and Bernd Herndlhofer from 16th place. Ammermüller handed over the car to his colleague in fifth place. "I took over the car after the pit stop at which we unfortunately lost two places,” said Kenneth Heyer. "In the subsequent drizzling rain I was having a lot of difficulties. I suppose the rear suspension setup was too hard. I drove on slicks for the first time in rain. Having scored one point nevertheless was okay.” Herndlhofer was running in 13th place in the field prior to the pit stop. Christiaan Frankenhout took over the car and ultimately managed to finish ninth after having spun once. "Michael Ammermüller drove a good race on Sunday and fought a lot of battles,” summed up Arno Zensen on Sunday. "And he did that despite the fact that some of the cars around him had the upper hand. I’ve been very pleased with Christiaan Frankenhout’s performance this weekend. Unfortunately, he spun on Sunday; otherwise he’d have still scored the final point. It was a difficult race. Compared with the other Audi cars we weren’t really competitive.”The final rounds of the ADAC GT Masters season will be held at Oschersleben on 2 and 3 October.
