The Stig at Castle Combe, his local circuit

With the Stig's identity now revealed as racing driver and stunt man, Ben Collins, fans of Top Gear might like to know some of the Bristol man's background at his local track.

Collins began his career in the now defunct Formula First in 1994,taking part in the race at Castle Combe in September that year, finishing 4th.

Having moved on to Formula 3, Le Mans and ASCAR, Collins returned to Castle Combe in 2005 when he drove a Porsche 911 GT3-RSR in two roundsof the British GT championship.

A 3rd place finish alongside hisco-driver Neil Cunningham was followed up by a 4th in the second race.  Since then, Collins has only returned to his local circuit as the Stig, Top Gear featuring the track on a number of occasions.

Although many at the circuit had been convinced they knew Collins was the Stig, there is still an element of doubt he is the only one, the latest guessing game being 'who are the others?'.

Collins' predecessor was Perry McCarthy, who gained two podiums at Castle Combe in 1983 in the Star of Tomorrow Formula Ford championship. He returned in 1985 and finished 5th in a round of the British Formula Ford 1600 championship, one place ahead of Damon Hill.
