but Shedden wins race one
Gordon Shedden has won the first of today’s three Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship races at Knockhill – to the delight of his watching home crowd.
Scottish ace Shedden’s Honda out-accelerated Alex MacDowall’s Chevrolet, starting from pole, into the first bend and from there was never headed in a race punctuated by two brief safety car periods.
A fighting third was Steven Kane in his BMW after he lunged past Shedden’s team-mate Matt Neal on the penultimate lap.
Neal took fourth ahead of Team Aon Ford driver Tom Chilton and series leader Jason Plato who, with the maximum 45kgs in his Chevrolet, took sixth having started fourth.
Next up, coming out on top of a nail-biting and often chaotic five-way fight for seventh, was Plato’s closest championship rival, Team Aon’s Tom Onslow-Cole.
The result means the top six in the championship – Plato, Onslow-Cole, Neal, Shedden Chilton and Kane - have closed up slightly with the 53 points that had covered them prior to the race having been reduced to 48.
