Le Mans fever comes to UK
This weekend sees Lola sports cars competing in their home event at the Autosport Silverstone 1000kms race, the final round of the 2010 Le Mans Series.
The Lola factory ensured that the weekend had a fitting preview with a special Media Day in Huntingdon on Wednesday. Team members, drivers, suppliers and fans were invited to the event, which formed the basis of a Sports Car panel forum for the Midweek Motorsport programme hosted by Radio Le Mans’ very own John Hindaugh.
Lola drivers Lord Paul Drayson, Jonny Cocker and Jonathan Kennard joined Lola Executive Chairman, Martin Birrane and Managing Director, Robin Brundle to discuss the hot topics of present and future sports car racing.
The day also doubled as a preview for this weekends 1000kms race with eleven Lola designed and built LMP cars racing on the new configuration at the home of British motorsport. Signature Plus, Aston Martin Racing, Rebellion Racing, Drayson Racing, RML, MIK Racing, Kruse Schiller and RLR will all race with Huntingdon made prototypes this weekend.
Both the Lola-Rebellion and the RML entered Lola-HPD will be aiming for title glory in the LMP1 manufacturers and LMP2 teams championships respectively. RML are 13 points clear of Strakka Racing going in to their home race, while Rebellion are two points clear of Peugeot.
LMP qualifying for the race starts 13.40 on Saturday 11th, with the 1000kms getting away at 11.55 on Sunday 12th September.
