Davide Valsecchi experienced a tough race 1 at Monza

on the first of his two home GP2 Main Series races at the Italian venue.

After taking off from 12th, Valsecchi quickly climbed up to reach the tail of his team-mate, who was running in 4th. His recovery was stopped by a race control decision, as he was penalized with a drive-through becausewith a chicane cut. Following from the penalty, Valsecchi fell well behind the order, and climbed back again to 9th.

"I'm quite disappointed" said Davide "because it's  an unexpected penalty. I cut the chicane due to an incident, and didn't improve my position. I just wonder why they threw me a drive through. It feels bad because today I could have fought for a podium spot, before trying my luck tomorrow. Now I have nothing, despite the fact that I didn't make a mistake."
