(SPEEDWAY 1) EDINBURGH will take a five point lead to Newcastle on Sunday for the second leg of the Premier League Knockout Cup Final.The Monarchs trailed for some time during their home leg, being seven points down at the halfway stage, but they finished the meeting strongly to give themselves an advantage.They were hampered early on by two falls for No.1 rider Ryan Fisher in difficult conditions, but the American responded well to combine with Matt Wethers for a key 5-1 in Heat 13.Newcastle's Danish stars Rene Bach and Kenni Larsen won the last two racesto maintain the margin, Edinburgh taking the meeting 47-42 .Monarchs boss John Campbell said: "The riders of both teams deserve a lot of credit for their efforts tonight but I must say I will be disappointed if we can't win the cup on Sunday!"
(SPEEDWAY 2) EASTBOURNE boss Trevor Geer has paid tribute to his team's efforts after their last-gasp Elite League Knockout Cup Final defeat.The Eagles were edged out by Poole in the final race at Wimborne Road, but Geer could still reflect on several positive performances especially in thesecond half of the season.He told The Argus: "We're disappointed to miss out but it could not have been a better finale to the season as a speedway meeting."We had a lot of support and I wouldn't have thought any of them were really too disappointed. I thought the boys rode brilliantly."
