Masters Top Hat has announced its first FF1600 race for Oulton Park on March 12th. The race will be open to all FF1600 cars with a special class for pre-1990 cars.
The race will be the first FF1600 event of the season and will run on the International circuit for the Old Hall Trophy. The race was last run in 1986 at the first Oulton Park Racing Club event and was won by Jason Elliott's Duckhams Van Diemen RF86. In an echo of that race meeting, the Top Hat Raceday on March 12th will be run by MotorSport Vision Racing.
Top Hat Event Manager James Beckett said, "To have a Formula Ford race at a Top Hat event is another first for us at our Oulton Park debut. We are looking forward to a good grid and a competitive race given the number of Formula Ford 1600s that are in the North West. Although this will be a non-championship race, it gives competitors a chance to race on the full circuit and without it being part of a championship, we are hoping to attract some visitors as well for some good old Northern hospitality!
"We are running the event for the Old Hall Trophy and want to beat the 24 cars for the last running of it in 1986. We are also keen to assess the response from competitors to racing a Top Hat meeting and perhaps run another race at another of our meetings later in the season."
The FF1600 event will run for 15 minutes and be joined on the programme by a 40-minute race for World Sportscar Masters, a 75-minute race for Gentlemen Drivers Pre-1966 GT cars, Pre-66 Touring Cars (45 minutes), a 30-minute race for Oldies but Goldies and XK Challenge cars plus the 1970s Celebration Race for GT and touring cars.
