Masters gears up for Barcelona debut

Masters Historic Racing is gearing up for its first overseas festival of 2011 as it forms the on-track element of the exciting new Catalunya Classic Revival at the Barcelona GP circuit on April 8-10.

Aimed at recreating the action and atmosphere of the halcyon days of racing at Montjuich Park, the Catalunya Classic Revival brings historic competition cars to a contemporary Grand Prix circuit.

The Circuit de Catalunya, current home of the Spanish Grand Prix, will play host to Grand Prix Masters, World Sportscar Masters, Interserie Revival, a 2-hour evening race for Gentleman Drivers Pre-1966 GT cars and Masters Pre-66 Touring cars.

In addition the event will mark the opening race for the new Masters Sports-Prototype series for Group C/GTP sports cars. With a test day on the Friday, and a packed race timetable through Saturday and Sunday, each category will receive ample track time.

With three 25-minute races for Grand Prix Masters, two 25-minute races for Interserie Revival competitors, a 60-minute race for Touring Car and Sportscar Masters competitors, as well as being joined by two historic motorbike races during the weekend. Masters Sports-Prototypes competitors will have two 40-minute races, while the Gentleman Drivers grid will race for two hours on Saturday evening and a 40-minute sprint race on Sunday.

Masters Events Manager Rachel Bailey said: "We are very excited about pioneering this new event at this fantastic circuit. We are working hard with experienced Spanish promoter Jesus Pozo, to ensure that we take full grids to what should be an excellent start to the Masters season for many of our competitors. To race on a contemporary Grand Prix circuit is great for competitors and we are thrilled to add Barcelona to our list that includes Spa-Francorchamps, Nurburgring and Silverstone. With the circuit being easily accessible, and in a great location for tourism, we are sure this will be a must-do event on the historic motor racing calendar."

Friday April 8th is set aside for testing with qualifying and racing taking place on April 9th/10th.
