Dutton returns to racing with Masters after 30-year lay-off

Leading single-seater race team owner Richard Dutton will return to racing at Oulton Park on March 12th, his first race since 1980.

Dutton will share his Lotus Cortina with renowned engine builder Neil Brown in the Pre-66 Touring Car race at Oulton Park on Saturday March 12th as part of the Top Hat Raceday at the Cheshire circuit. Dutton, a former front-runner in Formula Ford 2000, last raced in a Talbot Sunbeam celebrity race at Snetterton in 1980 but has since built up Fortec Motorsport into a leading team in Formula 3, Formula BMW and Formula Renault.

Brown has only raced once before: his one and only outing was in a Formula Ford 1600 car at Snetterton in 1974 and will share the car with Dutton in the 45-minute race.

“Richard is the quick one,” said Brown, “but I am looking forward to driving it at Oulton Park even though I have never raced there. There isn’t much run-off but it will be great fun.”

Top Hat Event Manager James Beckett said: “It is great to see people from the motor sport industry coming out to race with Masters just for fun. That is what we are about: providing people with great venues and lots of track time so that they can enjoy their motor sport. I am delighted that Richard and Neil have recognised that and look forward to seeing how they get on at Oulton Park on March 12th.”

The Masters Raceday at Oulton Park is on Saturday March 12th and features races for Sportscar Masters, Gentlemen Drivers Pre-66 GT cars, Pre-66 Touring Cars, Oldies but Goldies 50s saloons, 1970s Celebration race and Formula Ford 1600.
