Sumpter Points Ahead as Porsche Club Championship Arrives at Donington

Donington Park hosts round five and six of the 2011 Porsche Club Championship on Sunday May 15th, and so far one driver has done all the winning – Mark Sumpter unbeaten with four race wins to date in his trusty 911 SC. Championship leader Sumpter has been chased hard by the leading 968 CS drivers, with Ben Demetriou twice second at Brands Hatch and Pete Morris and Mark McAleer each taking that slot at Croft.

Sumpter’s victorious 911 is due to be replaced by the 964 C2 his Paragon outfit is building up, and any delay in getting his new mount up to pace will see his rivals closing in the points chase. The Class One battle at the front of the field has been tightly fought, with other drivers to watch for including Kevin Harrison, always strong in his 964 in the early laps, Miles Maserati, on the podium at Croft, and Andy Purdie due to make his debut in a second Paragon 964.

Reigning champion Chris Dyer heads the Class Two line up, his 944 S2 often well up in the top ten and the handling of the 944 should suit the twisty first part of the Donington lap. Anthony Oliver chased Dyer hard at Croft, but the 2010 winner is so far unbeaten in class this season. Stiffer opposition is expected at Donington with 2010 Class One champion Marcus Carniel due to return in a 944 S2.

Qualifying for the Porsche Club Championship runners is at 09.35 on Sunday morning, with 25-minute races scheduled for 13.00 and 16.55.
