DARCY Ward scored a paid maximum as Poole eased to a 55-31 victory over Coventry in the first meeting between the clubs since last year's Elite League Grand Final.Ward was unbeaten from four rides in a dominant Pirates' performance with the Bees limited to just two race wins in a meeting cut short by one race following a crash in Heat 14.Ward said: "I am pretty pumped to have got the maximum tonight. It felt good out there and to be honest we didn't even give last year's defeat much of a thought."It was about winning tonight and we did that well. We can be pleased with that."

NEWPORT have signed Australian teenager Justin Sedgmen in their first team change following an indifferent start to their Premier League season.Sedgmen, who has been racing in the top flight only so far this year for Swindon, replaces fellow countryman Mark Jones and will make his debut at Edinburgh on May 20.Club owner Steve Mallett said: "'We have had to let our heads rule our heart with respect to Mark. We had to do something to improve matters and we are preparing the ground for another move."It is now up to the Newport fans who cried out for change to turn out in force and show their support for the adjustment in team personnel. Justin has been plying his trade with Swindon in the Elite League so far this season and his acquisition is a real coup."

MILDENHALL co-promoter Michael Lee fired a warning to his riders after seeing the Fen Tigers well beaten 59-32 at Belle Vue on Monday.Kyle Howarth scored a 15-point maximum for the Colts with Adam McKinna also unbeaten by a visiting rider, much to the anger of Lee who was far from happy with his team's performance. He fumed: "We were pathetic. The only riders that emerged with any credit were Jack Hargreaves, Lewis Blackbird and Aaron Baseby. The rest let me down, the club down and the fans, especially those that travelled to Manchester on a Monday night."Even James Brundle, who has been excellent so far, had an off night. After such a good start this has been a wake up call for us and the team will have to show me they can do better when we face King's Lynn on Sunday."
