SCUNTHORPE will re-stage their British semi-final next Friday, May 20, after persistent rain forced the postponement of the event last night.Scorpions promoter Rob Godfrey described himself as "gutted" that the weather had intervened with the track in perfect condition and a high-quality line-up ready to compete.Godfrey said: "We had all the ingredients in place for an outstanding meeting and the weather let us down at the last possible moment. I thought we might get a shower but it just kept coming down for over two hours. "The wind seemed to stop and the rain just stayed overhead so we've got to do it all again in seven days. Hopefully, that will give Simon Stead and Tai Woffinden enough time to be fit and take their places."

PETERBOROUGH are making plans to keep supporters informed with their local football team's progress next Thursday. The Panthers face Lakeside in the Elite League on the same night as Peterborough United play their League One play-off against MK Dons at London Road, and the club are exploring ways of making sure their fans are kept in touch.Director of speedway Peter Oakes said: "We tried everything we could to avoid the clash but it just wasn't possible."The only other option was to go another week without having a home meeting and that was something we couldn't contemplate. Our last home match was on April 28 and our next meeting would have been May 26."

INJURY-hit King's Lynn Young Stars have moved to sign Kyle Hughes as their new No.1.Hughes, who will make his debut at Mildenhall on Sunday, comes in with Darren Mallett ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken femur.Manager Dale Allitt said: "We're over the moon with the signing, and I'm sure that racing in the National League as well as for Somerset will give Kyle the confidence to progress, because he's had a difficult start to the season with injuries himself."We're very pleased to have him. He rode at the Norfolk Arena for Boston in 2006 so he knows the track well, and it also means Jake Knight won't have to go straight up to No.1 when we get our new averages."
