Westmoreland continues progress in the rain at Croft

Yorkshire-based Motorpoint Yamaha Superbike rider James Westmoreland continued his rapid improvement as he adapted well to the hazardous conditions at Croft.

Westmoreland, from Hull, has endured a baptism of fire in the toughest British Superbike season for years. His first season in the MCE British Superbike Championship did not start well when he crashed out of at Brands Hatch a month ago. Since then solid week-on-week improvements lead to him recording 4th and 5th fastest lap times in the practice sessions and qualifying rounds then 12th on race day at Croft.

The rain came down and made it difficult for the 22 year-old Motorpoint Yamaha rider to get hold of the course. However, he rode bravely and recorded some quick laps which gave him his highest finish of the year with 12th in both races.

Says James Westmoreland: “I’ve made good progress this weekend although I would have liked better results for the races, this was my first time I have ridden the Superbike in scary conditions and I was too cautious with the tyre choice and paid the penalty. It was really hard to overtake when I fell back to 17th and in a field of this quality it’s always going to be difficult to take the race on from there. Each week I’m feeling more comfortable with the bike and I was getting a good race pace.”

His next race will be on May 30th at Thruxton where he will attempt to improve his places once again as he claws his way back up the Superbike Championship.
