Lyons leads the pack at Brands Superprix

In a small break in the British GT season Essex-based professional racing driver Lyons was at Brands Hatch again this weekend competing in the MSC supported Formula 5000 race, this time on the bill of the Brands Hatch Superprix. He was again competing against his father Frank Lyons as well as the supporting Kiwis over from New Zealand to race on the famous UK circuit. The 20-year-old was again racing in his Lola T400 on the Saturday and Sunday meeting and as he did at Oulton Park he dominated from first practice. Lyons qualified for race one and two on pole position in the 34-car grid. After his performance at Oulton Park the previous week, Lyons was determined to repeat the performance in the Superprix and score the quadruple of race wins. And with his qualifying form high, the races were to be another demonstration run from the talented young racer. The pace was so strong from Lyons at the start that his lap times were quicker than the more powerful Formula 1 cars also racing on the same day. Michael broke the lap record in both Formula 5000 races during the weekend and left it at 1:23:5After the race meeting Michael said;“This was the perfect weekend in the Formula 5000 car and I want to say a special thanks to my mechanics and engineers. It was a great team effort and with their hard work, they helped to get Dad on the podium too which was great.”“With these cars, it isn’t just about the winning, they are so great to drive and so responsive and with no noise regulations this weekend, you even had the thunderous noise in its full glory! It was also great to see so many cars racing this weekend, I think it was the most F5000s on a grid in recent years – certainly in Europe anyway.”“I’m now really looking forward to going to Spa next weekend for the British GT championship where my focus is on the championship chase.”Michael now returns to the Avon Tyres British GT Championship where he will be back racing in his main racing series at Spa Francorchamps on July 8th and 9th in the Ferrari 458 GT3 with Scuderia Vittoria.
