Top six for Atech CRS GP’s Nick Yelloly at Silverstone GP3

Atech CRS GP’s Nick Yelloly backed up his first podium of the season in race one on Saturday to claim sixth in today’s second GP3 series round in front of an enthusiastic British crowd. Starting from row three the Solihull racer leapt away at the lights, and was battling for third place as the field filed into the first corner. The 20 year-old lost out at the mid-point of the lap and was pushed down to fourth, which he held for the opening six laps.  He lost two places but gamely hung on to a four-way battle for third place eventually crossing the line sixth to take a further championship point.

Zoel Amberg recovered well from his disappointment of not finishing yesterday’s opening race, with a strong drive through the field in race two. The Swiss driver lined up 23rd of the 29-car field, and made a good getaway at the lights, making up seven places over the course of the 14 laps to finish 16th.

The team’s third driver Marlon Stockinger, lined up 16th for race two after a 30 second penalty from yesterday’s race. Despite that the Swiss-Filipino was keen to make up the disadvantage with a strong showing in race two but at the lights, he was adjudged to have jumped the start for which he was awarded a stop-go penalty, effectively ending any hopes of another top ten finish.Nick Yelloly: “It was a pretty good race. I made a good start and we had the pace early on but I made a couple of mistakes, which cost me two places. I settled down again after that and was able to catch up with the cars ahead, pushing hard for the battle for third. We had a bit of understeer at the start and then oversteer towards the end, but we finished where we started so it’s not a bad result. We have some work to do for the next race, but I’m looking forward to the Nurburgring where hopefully we can pick up some more points.”Marlon Stockinger: “We came into this weekend with so much promise after having a good test here earlier in the year. Things looked promising in practice and we had a good race through the field yesterday and really seem to be making progress, but then had the penalty awarded. Today it was a close thing at the start, but you can’t argue with the technology there, and so I accept the penalty. We’re making steps in the right direction, we just can’t seem to keep the momentum going, but I’ll put this weekend behind me and start afresh in Germany.”
