Speedway News and Fixtures

(SPEEDWAY 1)FREDRIK Lindgren has made remarkable progress following his horror crash on Monday and has now been released from hospital. Wolves star Lindgren was knocked out after the accident in his opening ride of the fixture against Lakeside and was complaining of pains in his neck and back – but he is now well enough to recuperate at the home of team manager Peter Adams.Adams said: “Freddie is in good spirits and we will take good care of him before he feels well enough to get on a plane and go home to Sweden.“There is absolutely no suggestion of him riding in the immediate future but we will continue to keep a close eye on his improvement and you can be sure Freddie will want to be back as soon as possible.”(SPEEDWAY 2)BIRMINGHAM boss Graham Drury has revealed he held talks with three current or former Grand Prix stars in a bit to revamp his side. The Brummies have spoken to Hans Andersen, Greg Hancock and Antonio Lindback about the possibility of a move to Perry Barr, but they will be unchanged for their derby clash with Wolves on Thursday.Drury said: All our discussions with Greg, Antonio and Hans were very amicable and we actually spoke to Hans in the winter and he came and had a look around Perry Barr but decided to join Coventry.“I think it’s only fair to let our supporters know exactly what we have been trying to do and I’d like to thank the three riders named for the professional manner in which they held talks. I would like to think we could have the opportunity to talk to them again in the winter with a view to the 2012 season.”(SPEEDWAY 3)AUSTRALIAN teenager Cameron Heeps scored a sensational 20 points as Mildenhall leapt up to second place in the National League with a win at Dudley.Heeps was beaten just once in seven rides, by home star Tom Perry, and he received strong support from Jack Hargreaves (13+3) as the Fen Tigers triumphed 51-38.Co-promoter Michael Lee said: “We are ecstatic. To come here and take all four points is unbelievable. Cameron was sensational and Jack proved what a brilliant captain he is, but all the boys played their part. “We knew the team were capable of pulling off a result like this, but to win so well on Dudley's home track has blown us all away.”(SPEEDWAY 4)

BELLE Vue expect work to commence on their state-of-the-art new stadium by spring of next year – although it could be earlier. The Aces have to confirm planning permission for the project, and a switch to Friday night racing is planned when the stadium opens, whilst team boss Jim Lynch has already been handed a new contract to start plans on the 2012 team. The new venue has also been mooted as the potential host for the 2013 World Cup, and the club anticipate running speedway there by next September.Eddie Smith, Chief Executive of the New East Manchester regeneration framework, said: “The more realistic time scale is to start the work is spring next year. If it begins in March we would need to be running a speedway meeting by September. I am confident a six-month building plan can be delivered.”

SHEFFIELD star Shane Parker is looking to Sunday’s Premier League Fours at Leicester as a big opportunity for the Tigers to land silverware this season. The Owlerton team have been amongst the front-runners in the league this year but have been frustrated by several dropped points and Parker, who is in the final season of his distinguished career, says they are capable of a big performance in the Beaumont Park showpiece. He said: “We’ve had some frustrating results, but these things happen. We’re a good team but we just haven’t been able to find the consistency you need to challenge for the league title.”I guess it would be nice if we could win this meeting because that would give us a trophy which I feel we’re good value for. Josh (Auty) has had a bad time with injury but if he’s fully fit we could be a major force in the competition.”
