Speedway News and Fixtures

(SPEEDWAY 1)LEICESTER stage one of the big highlights of the domestic season on Sunday as the Premier League Fours comes to Beaumont Park (5pm).Event organisers are keen to stress that tickets remain available for the event on the day, with around 25 per cent of the venue capacity already taken up in advance sales.SpeedwayGB Events co-ordinator David Hoggart said: “I'd like to congratulate everyone at Leicester Speedway who have given up their time to administer advance sales - this is a stunning result and will minimise queues at the Box Office on the day.“With an excellent weather forecast we are in for a feast of Speedway. We have eight Premier League No.1s with the cream of the league to back them up, and I really can't predict a winner.“We are particularly looking forward to welcoming Sir Peter Soulsby, Leicester's City Mayor, and his guests, and of course on behalf of the BSPA I would like to sincerely thank Leicester City Council for all their hard work and support to bring this great event to the city under the One Leicester strategy.”The box office opens at 2pm on Sunday with the turnstiles open from 3pm and funfair rides on site. The meeting gets underway at 5pm.(SPEEDWAY 2)EDINBURGH were outgunned at reserve as Scottish rivals Glasgow took a key Premier League win at Armadale.Nick Morris and Theo Pijper were paid for a remarkable total of 29 points for the Tigers, with home duo Kyle Howarth and Tim Webster scoring just one and both being ruled out of the match before the end.Glasgow’s seventh away win of the campaign was achieved by a 48-42 margin and increases their chances of them succeeding the Monarchs as champions.Edinburgh chairman Alex Harkess said: “We made the track a little grippier to improve the racing, but our young reserves did find it hard to handle.”(SPEEDWAY 3)RENE Bach is set to return from long-term injury when Newcastle host Rye House in the Premier League on Monday.Bach suffered a badly broken leg in a crash ironically against the same opponents in April, but is now fit to return as a replacement for Stuart Robson, who was injured last week. The Diamonds have made a further change with Joe Haines coming in for the injured Jason King, whilst Mark Lemon could be back within a fortnight.Newcastle promoter Darryl Illingworth said: “The massive blow of losing Robbo will hopefully be covered as Rene fights back to full fitness, and the inclusion of Joe will allow us to run a seven man team again and take away some of the pressure on the other riders.”(SPEEDWAY 4)SCUNTHORPE are chasing their highest finish at Premier League level for nearly 30 years after getting the better of Ipswich 53-39 at the Eddie Wright Raceway. The Scorpions are now only three points away from fifth place in the table, with home matches in hand on the three teams who separate them from the position they achieved in 1983.Team boss Richard Hollingsworth said: “Whilst the scores all the way through the meeting were pretty similar to last week I did feel much more confident we were going to win. You never know what is going to happen but we did throw away a few points which prevented a bigger victory.“The away aspect is the one we have struggled with the most since joining the Premier League and it would be absolutely fantastic if we could start picking up more away wins.”(FIXTURES)
