THE Speedway Control Bureau have issued an amended result for the Lakeside v Coventry Elite League fixture at Purfleet on Saturday.A Protest was made to the Referee by the Lakeside Team Manager during the Meeting and another similar one was made by the Coventry Team Manager at the conclusion of the Meeting. These Protests concerned the validity of Silencers being used during that Meeting. At the conclusion of the Meeting, 6 Silencers were handed into the custody of a nominated SCB Official, who on Sunday morning, in the presence of a representative of both Lakeside and Coventry had these examined by David King, the manufacturer of King Silencers. One silencer, that belonging to Edward Kennett was found to have been tampered with and therefore used illegally. The points scored by Mr Kennett (15pts) and those scored by Nick Morris (3pts) when using Mr Kennett’s motorbike in Heat 12 are deducted from the final score. The Revised score now reads: LAKESIDE 42 – COVENTRY 30 Mr Kennett has been charged with non-compliance of the 2011 Speedway Regulations and a date for a Disciplinary Court Hearing is being arranged. In accordance with the 2011 Speedway Regulations, Mr Kennett’s SCB Registration is suspended for a period of 7 days as from yesterday.

COVENTRY have issued a statement accepting the findings of the silencer examinations following Saturday’s fixture at Lakeside. The Bees have already announced that their club captaincy passes to Ryan Fisher from Edward Kennett, and say they will take internal action against Kennett if necessary following his SCB disciplinary hearing. The Coventry statement read: “Coventry Speedway has a long and proud history, and under no circumstances does the club condone cheating of any kind, whether that relates to race fixing or machine tampering.“The club are shocked and disappointed by the actions of their captain, and would like to stress that no member of the Coventry management had any knowledge of Edward Kennett’s silencer tampering.“We would like to re-assure all speedway supporters that the management are as appalled by his actions as any fair-minded supporter would be.“Coventry wish to express sincere apologies to British Speedway, its supporters, and in particular the supporters of Coventry and Lakeside who attended the meeting on Saturday, for this unacceptable misdemeanour.“We would also like to thank the licenced officials at Lakeside for bringing the matter to the referee’s attention, and for dealing with it in a professional manner.”

THE Premier League Fours Final will run as a stand-alone event at Leicester later in the season after Sunday’s event was abandoned. Both eight-heat semi-finals were run at Beaumont Park, but heavy rain returned to prevent the Final from taking place.Host club Leicester and Somerset qualified from the first semi, with Ipswich and Workington joining them from the second. The Final is usually staged over 12 races, but this will be extended to 16 on the re-staging date, which is yet to be confirmed.
