WOLVERHAMPTON edged out Poole 45-44 in a thrilling Elite League contest at Monmore Green.Darcy Ward scored a full maximum for the league leaders, but Wolves were solid all-round with skipper Peter Karlsson riding through the pain barrier to top-score with 10 (paid 12).Wolves boss Peter Adams said: “This was a truly remarkable effort from the team and we are delighted with the win, especially as we were without our top rider Freddie Lindgren.”Wolves have also confirmed the signing of Czech rider Lubos Tomicek as a replacement for Tyson Burmeister, who is to return to America for personal reasons.

BELLE Vue collected a narrow win over Birmingham – taking the lead for the only time in the meeting in a dramatic final race.The Brummies led by four points with two heats to go, but an Aces 5-1 in Heat 14 levelled the scores, and Charlie Gjedde secured a 45-44 win by heading home Daniel Nermark in the decider as their respective team-mates failed to finish.Birmingham’s Krzysztof Kasprzak fell and then Belle Vue’s Rory Schlein suffered mechanical failure, leading to a 3-2 race result.Birmingham boss Graham Drury said: “I’m pleased with our efforts, I thought we rode very well and could so easily have won the meeting. It’s difficult to take defeat in the last race but I thought speedway was the real winner.”

PETERBOROUGH are through to the Knockout Cup quarter-finals after a ten-point aggregate win over Coventry.The Panthers had done their hard work with a 50-42 first leg win at Brandon and they added 12-points to that lead early on at the Showground before the Bees fought back on the night.The second leg score was 47-45 with Coventry’s Russian star Emil Sayfutdinov reeling off a string of race wins in the second half of the meeting.Peterborough star Troy Batchelor said: “We did well tonight even if we did dip a bit at the end. We knew we would have to be on our guard because Coventry are pretty good around here and they showed that.”

NEWCASTLE guest Jason Lyons scored a 15-point maximum as the Diamonds overcame Rye House in a typically tight Premier League contest between the clubs.Lyons held on to win the final race ahead of Rockets’ duo Jordan Frampton and Chris Neath to seal a narrow 45-44 win, with the visitors well served by four race wins from reserve Nelson.Newcastle boss George English said: “It was touch and go for a few races tonight, but with Jason Lyons riding better now than ever before, our favourite guest performer really made sure the win was going to be ours despite some interesting refereeing decisions.”
