Mundy Aiming to Hold Off Mortimer in Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge

Graeme Mundy heads the ‘Driver of the Year’ points as the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge visits Oulton Park in Cheshire this Saturday, August 13th, just eight points clear of closest rival Oly Mortimer, the latter in a rich vein of form having won the previous four races. The long lap at Oulton should let the 400BHP GT3s really stretch their legs, the series providing a racing home for the Porsche GT3s formerly eligible for the Porsche Carrera Cup GB and similar series across the world.

Mundy and Mortimer were closely matched in the most recent race at Rockingham in July, and Mundy will be eager to stay ahead after the two 25-minute races at Oulton. Mortimer has been in recovery mode since a non-finish at Croft in April dented his title charge, but the young Scot has made good use of his quick starts in the races since to stay clear and score maximum points.

Steven Liquorish sits third in the points, his black 997 GT3 moving closer to the lead pace as Liquorish gets to grips with the potent car. Joining the series this weekend will be former Carrera Cup GB runner Karl Leonard, the Irish racer out in a Team Parker 997 GT3 and providing a useful benchmark for the regular runners.

Another racer making his 2011 debut with the series is Gary Marsh, who will run in Class Two in a 996 GT3 Cup, having claimed second overall in one of the races at his last outing in the series at Silverstone in October 2010..

The GT3 runners qualify at 08.55 on Saturday morning, with their two 25-minute races scheduled for 12.25 and 16.45.
