SPEEDWAY News and fixtures

(SPEEDWAY 1)BERWICK have completed a full transfer deal with Swindon to make mid-season signing Sebastian Alden a Bandits asset.Swedish star Alden has immediately become a popular figure at Shielfield Park – although ironically the announcement was followed by a 50-40 home defeat at the hands of Ipswich.Bandits co-owner John Anderson said: “We need to show we’re here for the long-term and one of the most important ways we can show this, and significantly strengthen our asset base is by going about the business of signing riders to the Bandits outright – and where better to start that at the top of the tree and secure Seb as our very own. “This is only the beginning and fans can expect an exciting run in to the end of this speedway season!”(SPEEDWAY 2)RYE House duo Jordan Frampton and Chris Neath secured a last-gasp 5-1 to edge the Rockets to a 47-46 win over Premier League title favourites Glasgow. The home side trailed by three points going into the final race but although Frampton led from the gate it looked like the Tigers would take victory until Neath found a way past Joe Screen at the end of lap three.Neath said: “We’ve dropped silly points at Redcar and Newcastle in the last couple of weeks, but we are picking up a lot more now. Jordan and myself are riding quite consistently, and the others are picking up their game – not dramatically, but they are all chipping in. “I think we can produce a good finish to the season. While we won’t be challenging for the title, we can definitely play the role of spoilers.”

(SPEEDWAY 3)SCUNTHORPE star Richard Hall top-scored on his return to Leicester as the Scorpions held on for a 47-43 away win in their bid for a top-six Premier League finish.Hall, who was released by the Lions in mid-season, collected eleven (paid 12) and combined with Tero Aarnio for a vital 3-3 in Heat 15, keeping the home side’s Kauko Nieminen at the back.Team boss Richard Hollingsworth said: “It was a strong team display and the tracks at Redcar and Rye House will suit us next week. With those trips either side of the home meeting against old adversaries Plymouth it is undoubtedly a big weekend as we strive to finish as high up the table as we can.”Elsewhere Newport broke their record home Premier League win by demolishing Plymouth 68-22, whilst Workington overcame Newcastle 53-40.(SPEEDWAY 4)STOKE stormed to the top of the National League table with a 61-34 win over Dudley at Loomer Road. The Potters had four riders in double-figures, headed by Simon Lambert on 15, and boss Malcolm Vasey is now looking for good performances away from home to help cement a play-off place.Vasey said: “I’m really pleased to have got the victory and that we have gone top of the league, and I hope the lads savour the feeling of being top. I felt reasonably confident prior to the meeting and was really pleased we got off to a good start and continued to put Dudley under pressure. “We now have to turn our attentions to a very difficult meeting at Mildenhall (on Sunday), and at King’s Lynn on Wednesday and do out best to get something out of those meetings.”(FIXTURES)
