All to play for in Masters Historic Championships

With just two rounds remaining in the 2011 Masters European Championships, the battle is on to be crowned Champion in one of the four Masters Series.  As Masters Historic Racing heads to its final two events at Donington Park and Spa-Francorchamps, the race to win the TAG Heuer sponsored prizes in GP Masters, WSM, Gentlemen Drivers and Pre-66 Touring cars is really hotting up.Nowhere is the Championship race closer than in GP Masters where Daryl Taylor, Richard Barber, Ollie Hancock and Steve Hartley are all tied on 15 points each. Not far behind them is hard chasing Andrew Beaumont in his Lotus 76, who is just two points back.

Mark Bates heads the WSM points standings in his Porsche RSR, eight points clear of Paul Howells in his sister Porsche 911. Tied with Howells, however, is impressive newcomer David Forsbrey, who has enjoyed a great season in his Ford GT40, while Jamie Boot and Australian Laurie Bennett are just seven points behind.

The experienced pairing of Michael Schryver and Simon Hadfield leads the Gentlemen Drivers Pre-66 GT Championship, with a close battle ensuing behind for the runners-up spot. Currently, Sean Walker and Ian Flux are just three points clear of class leader Chris Scragg, with Jamie Boot and Sean McInerney still eager to be the best of rest at the end of the season.  Ben Adams in his Turner and Gordon McCulloch in his Alfa Romeo TZ1 are heading the smaller-engined category.The Pre-66 Touring Car Championship couldn’t be closer with Henry Mann (Lotus Cortina) and Nick Swift (Mini Cooper S) currently tied on 27 points apiece with Donington the next venue for the showdown, but Mike Dowd’s rumbling Ford Mustang is joint 10 points behind them with two races to go.Masters Historic Racing moves to Donington Park on September 3/4th with the 2011 Championships reaching their conclusion at Spa on September 24/25th
