Classic Endurance Racing at Estoril

Last but one CER race of the 2011 season, but big first on the Estoril Circuit - 23 and 24 September.

The last but one Classic Endurance Racing round will take place for the first time on the Estoril circuit in Portugal during the Le Mans Series final. For the occasion, some 40 cars will be on the starting grid before the last round at the « Dix Mille Tours du Castellet » two weeks later.

The Classic Endurance Racing is the mirror of the most famous endurance race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but also the World Sportscar Championship which had seen its pinnacle during sixties and seventies with the renowned "1000 kilometers" of Spa, Imola, Silverstone, Monza or Nürburgring… That revives today with the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup meetings.

The Classic Endurance Racing eighth season is coming to a close, after races in Navarra, Spa‐ Francorchamps, Imola and Silverstone, the CER is heading to the famous Portuguese circuit of Estoril… Just two weeks before the end of the season at the Paul Ricard HTTT during the Dix Mille Tours by Peter Auto.

After the big Spa‐Classic meeting in May and Imola in June, the competitors will tread the Portuguese soil for the second time in the history of the series (Algarve in 2009). The regulars, used to the Spa, Nürburgring, Barcelona and other Silverstone tracks, have signed up for this fifth race of the season and no less than 40 cars will be on the starting line, Saturday at 3 pm.

Without a doubt, Classic Endurance Racing's splendid evocation of a golden period must not prevent us considering the high level of performance of this historic series: the fastest prototypes lap times are very close to the Le Mans Series "LM"GT2 ones! A harsh battle is expected in all rounds. Firstly, between the T280 Lolas of Michel Quiniou, Jean Marc Merlin and Carlos Barbot who will try to overtake the very fast 2 liters prototypes. Other categories like GT2, Proto 1 and GT1 also promise fierce battle: between the three first Porsches 911 RSR in GT1 and between the ultra powerful Porsche 935 of the Austrian Micheal Foveny/Stephan Roitmayer and the BMW M1 of the McInerney.

Final Round …In two weeks, the CER will finish the 2011 season with two grids and more than 90 cars on the entry list!
