A DAMS EPIC partnership for the Renault 3.5 Series end of season tests

The Formula Renault 3.5 Series Championship is going from strength to strength, so the DAMS team has decided it is an area worth looking at. On Sunday, the 2011 season finished on the Mont Melo circuit beside Barcelona, and today Renault Sport has published the list of pre-selected candidates for the 2012 season.

To test the waters DAMS wanted to prepare its engineers, drivers and mechanics in view of a possible entry, and the French squad has decided to associate itself with the Spanish EPIC team for the 2011 end-of-season tests.

This partnership is for the end-of-season tests only (2 days at Montmelo, 3 hours' engine use and 2 days at Motorland Aragon). DAMS's aim is to take part in the 2012 Formula Renault 3.5 Series in its own name with its own team with 2 new cars.

EPIC will also benefit from this partnership by testing the new drivers brought in by DAMS in view of the 2012 season. This temporary association is based on a win-win exchange.

The drivers selected for the tests:

Car no. 11 Days 1 & 2: Rio Haryanto, DAMS driver in the Auto GP Series this year. The young 18-year-old Indonesian has also shone in GP3 (2 victories, seventh in the championship), and tested the French team's GP2 car 2 weeks ago in Valencia.

Car no. 12 Day 1: Nico Muller. The tall (1.86m) 19-year-old Swiss had a good season in GP3 (1 victory, fourth in the championship), and also tested with DAMS in GP2 at Jerez.

Day 2: Cesar Ramos. The 22-year-old Brazilian is the most experienced as he has already taken part in this year's WSR 3.5 Championship (3 podiums, 11th in the championship).

Loïc David, general manager: "We're very happy with our partnership with EPIC. This team had a great three days at the WSR final here in Barcelona this weekend, as well as a very good championship with Albert Costa finishing fourth overall in the general classification. We hope that we'll enter for the 2012 Formula Renault 3.5 Series, and this partnership gives us the opportunity to test some drivers for next season with the help of EPIC's technical back-up."

Claudio Corradini, EPIC team manager: "I can't wait to put this synergy with DAMS into operation. I hope that at the end of this brief partnership we'll be in a better position to tackle the 2012 season."
