Dan Wells has secured his second podium finish in as many race days at the first round of the two part Formula Renault Protyre Finals Series at Snetterton circuit. After qualifying on grid 3 for the final race of the day, the Salisbury lad slipped to sixth at the start before fighting his way back up into third on the very last lap in the action packed race.
"What a race!" Wells stated. "I am really happy to nab 3rd, its brilliant! For a while there I didn't think I was going to do it but I kept it together until the very last lap and managed to make up those 2 places when a couple of drivers ahead of me came together"
After being hit off into the first hairpin in the second race yesterday afternoon, Australian teammate Geoff Uhrhane was raring to hit the track this morning. Qualifying in 7th place for the first race of the day, the Aussie continued to improve in the second race after qualifying on grid 9. Fighting his way up into 7th he slipped to 16th after out braking himself ending his race with only 3 laps to go.
"Today the second race was a highlight for me until I just pushed myself too hard and came off the circuit" Geoff stated. "I am a little bit disappointed but, I have to take the positives from the weekend and move onto the second round at Rockingham next weekend. I am a driver that pushes myself and likes to take risks which is what you need to do sometimes if you want to better yourself. I am really looking forward to next week."
The first race of the day saw both Atech Reid GP drivers hold their qualifying grid positions to finish the 20-minute race where they started in positions 6 and 7. On a dry but windy Snetterton circuit, contrary to the conditions experienced by all drivers in race one and two yesterday, Wells finished just half a second ahead of his new teammate Geoff Uhrhane.
"To be honest I was hoping to qualify a little better than grid 7 for the first race of the day." Wells stated. "Unfortunately I got held up in traffic for the first flying lap, but I was much happier with my second qualifying grid and race. I didn't have the best start, which is unlike me and so I slipped down to 6th but I am delighted with the podiums to end the weekend on a high!"
Team Principal Anthony Reid commented on the weekend "It's a great result for the team and especially for Dan who secured two podiums this weekend. It was a shame that Geoff didn't finish the second race today because he would have secured his best finish so far in the Formula Renault 2.0 category to date. Now we change our focus to the racing next weekend in Rockingham.
