Suncity Group Macau Road Sport Challenge, CTM Macau Touring Car Race - Race
Hotel Fortuna MAC/HKG Interport RaceMacau’s Chou Keng Kuan held off a fast-charging Alvaro Mourato, also of Macau, to take a lights-to-flag victory in today’s Hotel Fortuna MAC/HKG Interport Race. Chou, Mourato and Hong Kong’s Billy Lo, who finished third, put on an exciting show, which saw Mourato cross the line just two hundredths of a second behind Chou.
The 10-lap race began behind the safety car, but as racing got underway, Chou got away cleanly, while Lo, who started from third, overtook Mourato to move into second. A battle for second ensued, with Mourato finally getting by Lo on the seventh lap. Mourato, last year’s champion, quickly set his sights on the leader, but was unable to catch and pass Chou.
Suncity Group Macau Road Sport ChallengeHong Kong’s Paul Yau in a Nissan GTR-R35 drove a determined race to win the Suncity Group Macau Road Sport Challenge, 3.452 seconds ahead of Japan’s Tatsuya Tanigawa in a Mazda LA-SE3P R8 and Kenneth Look, also of Hong Kong, in a Subaru Impreza GDB Ver8.
Pole-sitter Nattavude Charoensukhawatana of Thailand, driving a Mitsubishi EVO9, got off to a strong start and began to build up a gap at the front. Yau, however, stalled on the grid and expertly began to work his way back through the field. The race was interrupted by a brief safety car period on Lap 4, but at the restart on Lap 7, Charoensukhawatana again took the lead. Yau moved into second before setting his sights on taking the lead.
Yau caught up to Charoensukhawatana, the Thai struggling with mechanical problems. Yau passed his rival on Lap 9 to take the win, while Charoensukhawatana would eventually finish 14th.CTM Macau Touring Car CupHong Kong driver Samson Fung won the CTM Macau Touring Car Cup ahead of teammate Paul Poon, also of Hong Kong. Macau driver Leong Ian Veng was third.
Pole-sitter Poon got away cleanly at the start, but Leong, who started from second, took off in hot pursuit and on Lap 8 made contact with Poon and grabbed the lead. Fung, who had been running third, was promoted to second and then overtook Leong to take the lead. After a red-flag period on Lap 9, the race was restarted under the Safety Car. Following the restart, Fung pulled ahead and on Lap 10, Poon got by Leong to take second place.
