Great dates and tracks for new Formula Ford

Races at Spa, Zandvoort and Nürburgring and as well as top UK circuits

Formula Ford a regular support to British Formula 3 in addition to F3 Masters appearance and DTM billing 4 December, 2011 - The all-new EcoBoost Formula Ford challenger will enjoy top billing in the UK and mainland Europe in 2012 in its maiden season of competition, with races at all of England’s top circuits as well as mainland Europe events at Zandvoort, Spa-Francorchamps and the Nürburgring.

Plans for the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain and the Formula Ford EuroCup revealed this week by series promoter RacingLine build on the successful championship formats introduced to Formula Ford this year, with ‘dovetailed’ UK and European calendars offering great meetings and superb circuits.

It is a great set of dates, says RacingLine chief Sam Roach: “Not only will Formula Ford support British Formula 3 at all of its six UK meetings, we will also share the stage with the DTM German touring cars at Brands Hatch, the Masters Formula 3 event at Zandvoort, and also top events at Spa and - for the first time - the Nürburgring in Germany. It is a great calendar for us and the circuits being visited will offer the young drivers taking part a suitably impressive challenge.”

In 2012 the new EcoBoost Formula Ford cars will race alongside the Duratec-engined chassis which have been championship mainstays for the last five years. The new car features an all-new powerplant in the shape of Ford’s EcoBoost 1600 direct injection turbo unit, which produces 165PS and is mated to a new six-speed sequential racing transmission. The steel tubular chassis of the new car is the first to be granted FIA Safety Compliance status and features front and rear carbon crash structures as well as full-height cockpit side-impact protection panels.

The British championship for Formula Ford will feature alongside the British F3 and British GT series on the Oulton Park, Rockingham, Brands Hatch Grand Prix, Snetterton, Silverstone GP and Donington Park GP circuits, with three races at each. There will also be triple-header events at the Brands Hatch DTM meeting and at the Nürburgring, which will take the championship to 24 races in all.

The Nürburgring and June Brands Hatch races will also form part of the EuroCup, with the best drivers from the Benelux and Scandinavian Formula Ford championships joining their British counterparts on the grid. The EuroCup will also feature standalone events at the Belgian Grand Prix circuit of Spa, and at Zandvoort at Europe’s blue riband F3 event, the Masters.

RacingLine has confirmed that Formula Ford will once again benefit from excellent TV coverage, with half-hour standalone shows on Channel 4 in the UK and across Europe via satellite channel Motors TV.
