While the Championship staff keeps working hard in order to prepare the coming season, the Auto GP teams are also working at full steam in order to get ready for the 2012 challenge.
In this period of the year the teams are evaluating various options for their future line-up, and private testing is a very important part of this process: that’s why Campos Racing, MLR71 and MP Motorsport took their Zytek powered Lolas on track in Spain and Italy. The team owned and managed by Adrian Campos chose the Valencia circuit, as they did last year, for a two day-test on 2-3 December. The Spanish outfit fielded two cars on their home soil driven by Argentinean Facundo Regalia, who already drove for Campos Racing in the Magione promotional test, and Giuseppe Cipriani, who raced with Durango in 2011.
Even if a very changeable weather disturbed the test forcing the team to lose an half day of track time, Campos Racing completed their programme for the test successfully with both drivers completing around 50 laps with some very good laptimes: Regalia went below the 2011 pole position, while Cipriani was less than 1” adrift.
MLR71, meanwhile, decided to test in Italy: the Series new entry tested on the Franciacorta track (in northern Italy) on December 6 with Italian F3 Champion Sergio Campana and team owner Michele La Rosa. Campana was at his second time with the team, so he used the test as a useful opportunity to improve his feeling with both the car and the technical staff. At the end of the day the drivers had completed 60 laps with no issues at all. The team has already scheduled another day in Franciacorta for December 13, and is defining a busy winter testing calendar.
Last but not least, MP Motorsport has not tested yet but is going to do so in a few hours: the Dutch team has reached Motorland Aragon, in Spain, where they will test on 8-9 December. Following this test, the team has planned a very tight-packed testing schedule that includes sessions in Valencia and Barcelona.
