Motion Works UK awarded 5 Year Royal Automobile Club management contract for London to Brighton Veteran Car Run

Motion Works UK Limited, the automotive and motorsport marketing and management company based in Brackley, Northamptonshire has announced its appointment by the Royal Automobile Club of Pall Mall, London to exclusively manage the planning, organisation and administration of the prestigious London to Brighton Veteran Car Run for the following 5 years.

Taking place on the first Sunday of each November the event was first run in 1896 and marked the celebration of the passing into law of the Locomotives on the Highway Act, which raised the speed limit for light locomotives from 4 mph to 14 mph and abolished the requirement to be preceded by a man on foot. Only 14 of the 33 starters reached Brighton that day, but now over 400 veteran cars start the annual run from Hyde Park with the majority completing the 60 mile endurance to the South Coast.

The 2004 event to be held on Sunday 7 November will mark the occasion when the youngest participating vehicle will be 100 years old as the eligibility criteria limits vehicles to those built prior to 1 January 1905, and Motion Works UK have set themselves a target to attract as close as possible to a record 500 entries for the special occasion.

Roger Etcell, Chief Executive of Motion Works UK commented “This appointment is a fantastic milestone for the company.  To win such prestigious business from such an established Club marks the contract as a very special addition to our portfolio.  Ranked as one of Britain’s biggest motoring spectacles the event is held in affection by many as it provides the rare opportunity to see over 400 extraordinary motor vehicles of over 100 years in age in almost original condition.  Apart from furthering the participation we look to increase the event’s stature on the International calendar and broaden its awareness through its abundance of individuality, personality and character”.

Speaking on behalf of the Royal Automobile Club, The Secretary, George Kennedy said “We are delighted to be working with the knowledge and experience we found in the backgrounds of the principals of Motion Works UK as we embark on a new era to add further value to the Run whilst maintaining its authenticity and traditional nature”.
