The 2012 Lovell Rally of the Midlands roars into action at Mallory Park this Friday and Saturday and will be followed on Sunday with the Vintage Sports Car Club's Bob Gerard Memorial Trophy.
Lovell Rally of the Midlands:
It's the 11th running of the Rally of the Midlands and Mallory Park will become the central hub for this year's event with the Service Park, Scrutineering and Special Stages being held at the Friendly Circuit.
Not only that, but a brand new Rally Village will also be a focal point at the venue, with a range of stands and exhibitions ranging from artists to the Junior 1000 Rally Championship - the only Championship in the UK for drivers aged between 14 and 16 years.
A full size Ford Focus Rally Car simulator will be open in the Rally Village and you can take a drive and try to set the best time of the weekend. The fastest time over the weekend will win a real rally experience as well.
With a fantastic array of cars ranging from former World Rally Championship machinery, such as previous winner Damian Cole's Ford Focus WRC, to the crowd pleasing, always sideways, Ford Escorts. The event is also welcoming back three time Rally of the Midlands winner Tom Morris in his glorious MG Metro 6R4 - the distinctive machine ready to take on the fight for that record breaking fourth victory!
The Rally goes out on the streets of local towns and to MIRA for specialist stages as well as the special stages and central service area at Mallory Park. Entrance to Mallory Park costs £10 with under 14s going free of charge.
The Bob Gerard Memorial:
An incredible 60 years of racing machinery will be in action at the Vintage Sports Car Club's Bob Gerard Memorial on Sunday 24th June at Mallory Park.
It will feature everything from the earliest, rare Edwardian racing Cars to Pre 1961 Formula Junior and Historic Front Engined Grand Prix Cars and Formula 2 cars.
The event, which has long been a popular fixture in the VSCC events calendar, celebrates Leicestershire Grand Prix driver, Bob Gerard. It usually attracts several Cooper Bristols, the car that Gerard made famous.
In 2011, young local racer, William Nuthall, drove Gerard's very own vehicle to victory in the race. ERAs, Bugattis and other exotica will also feature.
Tickets cost £15 on the gate with under 14s going free of charge.
