POOLE’S unbeaten start to 2012 now extends to 18 matches after a 49-41 win at Wolverhampton to extend their lead at the top of the table.Skipper Chris Holder collected 14 points from five rides and there was a vital contribution of ten (paid 12) at reserve from Sam Masters as the Pirates picked up their fourth win of the season in all competitions at Monmore.Promoter Matt Ford said: “Yet again, our lads did us proud and went out there and fought hard for every point and I really can't praise them enough. Bomber (Chris Harris) did a fine job for us and Sam stood up and was counted which I was very pleased with. “I was happy with the contributions of all the boys. To bank four league points is an excellent return. It was a win full of character and commitment.”

EASTBOURNE recovered from a shaky start to pick up maximum points from their home derby clash with rivals Lakeside. The Hammers looked in good shape as they stormed into a 16-8 lead, but the Eagles hit back well to triumph 51-39 with skipper Cameron Woodward dropping just one point from five rides.Manager Trevor Geer said: “This is potentially a make or break week for us in terms of play-off progression, and while we harbour strong hopes of taking some reward from visits to Birmingham and Coventry on Thursday and Friday, it was imperative that we didn’t start the week by slipping up at home against Lakeside. “The win showcased some of our battling qualities, and as such has provided the ideal springboard to our matches against both the Brummies and the Bees. The boys are all looking forward to showing what they can do then and as for tonight, I am very pleased with them.”
