Lotus, Williams, McLaren and Brabham classics will transport Silverstone to a bygone era for the FIA HFO Championship race, supporting the British Grand Prix

Fans heading to this year’s FORMULA 1™ SANTANDER BRITISH GRAND PRIX (06 – 08 July), will get a taste of classic old school Formula , as Silverstone’s 3.66 mile Grand Prix circuit hosts a round of the FIA Historic Formula One (HFO) Championship™ - the pinnacle of historic motor sport.

The HFO Championship features iconic Grand Prix cars raced between 1966 and 1985, re-creating the spectacle, sights and sounds of the legendary 3-litre Formula 1™ era. The cars, formerly driven by legends such as Sir Jackie Stewart, James Hunt, Nigel Mansell, Emerson Fittipaldi, Gilles Villeneuve, and Keke Rosberg will be in action over all three days of the British Grand Prix, culminating in a 10-lap race on Sunday afternoon, shortly after the main F1 race.

The Silverstone field will cover a 15-year period of Formula 1 racing, from 1970 – 1985. More than 30 drivers will line-up on the starting grid, in Tyrrell, Lotus, Williams, Ferrari, McLaren, Brabham and other classic F1 cars, all in their original liveries.

There is a vast speed differential between the older cars, such as Jackie Stewart’s Tyrrell 001, and the latter machines that include the Stefan Johannsen Tyrrell 012 and Brabham BT49. To level the playing field, the championship is split into four classes, according to age and design characteristics of the cars.

The HFO became the only official FIA Historic Formula One Championship™ in 1994, since when it has gone from strength to strength.
