SHEFFIELD came from twelve points down to snatch a dramatic 47-46 Premier League victory at Berwick on Saturday. The Tigers got back into contention with an 8-1 in Heat 8 and then snatched a 5-1 in the penultimate race to go ahead before home duo Ricky Ashworth and Sebastian Alden suffered a miscommunication in Heat 15 allowing Hugh Skidmore and Ricky Wells through for a crucial 3-3.Sheffield boss David Hoggart said: It was a great result from a great team. They all mucked in to help each other - our guests fitted in so well, Richard Hall was there on crutches to gee the boys on, and Hugh has his Dad over for a month to help him out, and look at the effect that had.We never gave up, we kept chipping away, and we made lots of changes with switching riders around but there were no complaints because they all knew it was done for the right reasons, and we got there.

BERWICK boss Ian Rae had harsh words for his side after they threw away the lead to go down by a point against Sheffield.Rae felt the Bandits should already have secured victory well before the dramatic Heat 15 which saw Sebastian Alden relegated to the back after a breakdown in communications with Ricky Ashworth.Rae said: Its the manner in which we were defeated which hurts most, as in certain quarters there seems to be too little determination or desire to win and its a situation we as a management team are fully aware of.Were also in full agreement that its a situation that we cannot, in any way shape or form, allow to continue. It has to be halted and well be looking at every way to get this sorted so we can deliver the sort of results our fans are looking for.(SPEEDWAY 3)

LEICESTER maintained second place in the Premier League table with a 53-39 win over Glasgow at Beaumont Park their best home result so far this season.Kauko Nieminen picked up 14 points from five rides for the Lions with Lasse Bjerre (10+3) also in double figures, whilst Linus Eklof made an impressive debut with seven.Leicester co-promoter Alan Jones said: At 9am the meeting was in grave danger of being called off after incessant rain fell the day before and through the night, but a group of volunteers and stadium staff headed by Team Manager Glyn Taylor worked all day long to bring the track back into shape. We have a 'Dunkirk' spirit and a 'can do' culture here at Leicester ,and no matter what the conditions are we never give up on the task until all is lost.

SIMON Lambert made a successful return to Stoke with a paid maximum as the Potters saw off some stubborn early resistance from Kings Lynn. The Potters are now third in the National League table after the 53-36 win, with Ashley Birks re-diverted to Loomer Road after his Premier League match for Scunthorpe at Rye House was postponed matching Lamberts score.Stoke boss Malcolm Vasey said: King's Lynn pushed us really hard in the early part of the meeting, and we had to work hard. We did make things difficult for ourselves at times but came good and got the important three points. Adam (Wrathall) was over-trying and he is coming down here during the week to get some laps in, and I'm sure he'll settle down quickly. We now turn our attentions to next weeks meeting against the Dudley Heathens, and we know we will need to be at our very best against the leaders who are currently unbeaten in the league this season.
