Radical Masters EuroSeries racers start Sunoco Daytona Challenge

This weekend marked the start of the fourth Sunoco Rolex 24 At Daytona Challenge; with racers in the Radical Masters EuroSeries out for their first race of the season and all competing to win one of the biggest prizes in European motorsporta race seat in a DP in the Rolex 24 At Daytona.

Racing at the Autodromo International Algarve, the first Radical Masters EuroSeries round saw Brazilian, former British F3 racer, Victor Correa (Marks Electrical) snatch pole position points and points for a victory in race one after a brilliant drive to snatch victory from 2011 Sunoco Daytona Challenge winner Ross Kaiser and his team-mate Terrence Woodward (360 Racing).

The second race of the weekend saw a wet track and with the Algarve sunshine soon making an appearance it appeared the track was drying so Correa and the team took a gamble with their tyre choice, opting for slicks. However the track didn't dry as quickly as first thought and the young driver spun on the first hairpin. Correa was almost a lap down before he got his Radical back on track, but a fierce determined drive through the field saw him climb back into third and claim a spot on the podium, as well as gaining points for setting the fastest lap of the race.

James Abbott, son of Radical owner Phil Abbott, dominated the SR3 class with a double pole and two wins. Unfortunately his overallpoints score was reduced due to less than ten cars in his class being on the grid. However after two faultless drives Abbotts point score is a strong 96 points.

The SPEED EuroSeries will be next up to take their turn in earning points towards the Challenge at their first round on the 23rd/24th March in Monza.
