ADAM Roynon has made encouraging progress as he recovers from head injuries sustained at Coventry on Friday.Roynon is set to remain under observation in hospital for at least ten days but is awake, alert and has been talking to visitors.He has also been active on Twitter, posting: Im doing OK thanks guys! Got to stay in hospital for at least 10 days now! Thank you so much for the well wishes... it means a lot.(SPEEDWAY 2)

SHEFFIELD boss David Hoggart took great encouragement from his teams display in a narrow defeat at Leicester on Saturday.The Tigers picked up a useful League Cup point as the Lions edged to a 47-43 win with Lasse Bjerre taking the decisive final race, whilst Sheffields three heat-leaders were all in fine form.Hoggart said: I'm proud of the boys, they all worked hard tonight and all of them can be satisfied. Yes, we were ahead for the bulk of the meeting but we have riders in our side who have never even seen this track before.And Leicester are strongly fancied to win things this season. It's a big effort by the Sheffield boys and I'm extremely pleased despite the defeat.

NEWCASTLE face a nine-point deficit against Workington ahead of the second leg of the Ian Thomas Shield at Brough Park on Sunday. The Comets took Saturdays meeting 51-42 with a solid all-round effort headed by Kyle Howarth (11+2) whilst Stuart Robson was outstanding for the Diamonds with 18.Newcastle boss George English said: There was plenty to be pleased with in this early season match and Lewis Kerrs two points hides the real effort put in. Needless to say were delighted with Robbos superb 18 points and long may this form continue. Tonight (Sunday) well make sure the Comets know we want to lift this inaugural Ian Thomas Shield.

RYE House will be looking for revenge over Ipswich when they stage the UKs sole Easter Monday meeting at Hoddesdon.The Rockets lost 44-46 in a last-heat decider when the sides met at Foxhall on Good Friday in the League Cup, and promoter Len Silver is hoping Rockets fans back a team which has been built with the emphasis on youth.Silver said: Ipswich are a very tough side, theres no question about that. Theyve got Ben Barker who is the outstanding No.1 in the league.We need the support of the fans this season. Riders ride better in front of a full stadium so thats what Im hoping for.

SOMERSET took aggregate victory over Plymouth in the early-season West Country derby, having established a 16-point lead from the first leg.The Devils gained some consolation with a 48-41 win in Saturdays return fixture, reserve Todd Kurtz impressing with paid-14, whilst Rebels No.1 Jason Doyle kept up his strong start to the season with 13 after scoring a paid maximum in the first leg.Berwick, meanwhile, put in a solid display to get the better of Edinburgh 47-45 at Shielfield Park with the returning Kozza Smith top-scoring on ten.Craig Cook scored 14 for the Monarchs and along with Claus Vissing reduced the deficit to two points with a last-heat 5-1. The initially-planned first leg between the sides was postponed at Armadale on Friday.(FIXTURES)
