In light of where we were, who was in attendance, and coming back from a winless 2012, it was big.  For me, it was significant as it showed that the GAINSCO team still has the championship fire. Our team has never lost the desire and will to win, and the Texas victory showed that. The Austin win, to the delight of an enthusiastic crowd of 500 GAINSCO employees, agents and guests, was on Texas Home Turf as both GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing and GAINSCO Auto Insurance are based in the greater-Dallas area. The victory snapped a win drought for the team that dated back to the August, 2011 race in Montreal, and provides the perfect springboard for more success at Barber.GAINSCO has put together a solid record of top-three podium finishes in recent years on the 2.3-mile Barber road course. In addition to the 2007 and 2009 victories, GAINSCO has also finished second in the Porsche 250 the last two years.Barber has been very good to us over the years, a fantastic facility where we've been fortunate to end up on the podium more often than not, Gurney said. The competition has gotten much stronger lately, though, and we have to continue to scrape for every last bit of speed and consistency. In last years Porsche 250, GAINSCO chased the similar No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Corvette Daytona Prototype to the finish line.Barber is a great track, and having had success there in the past only makes it better, Fogarty said.  The 90 car has had incredible pace the last few years and that keeps us motivated and working hard to dethrone them.  We think we have got a good idea of what it will take and the team is excited to unleash the Red Dragon at Barber. The Texas victory also moved GAINSCO/Bob Stallings back into the thick of the early-season GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series Championship points race after a seventh-place finish in the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona.  Both the No. 99 team and drivers have 59 points to rank second in the standings, just six points behind leaders Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas and the No. 01 Ganassi Racing entry. Its been a long break since Austin but I think we are all still on a high from our Texas win, Gurney said. Getting the monkey off our back couldn't have happened at a better place. Now we'll try to build on our position in the championship. The Porsche 250 is a two-day Friday and Saturday event preceded by unofficial track testing on Thursday.  Friday features practice and qualifying while race-day Saturday features only the two-hour Porsche 250 that goes green at 12:45 p.m. CDT.Noteworthy-       Success doesnt come easy at Barber Motorsports Park but experience certainly helps. Barber is a very unique track where finding the right car setup for its undulating hills and drop-offs is always tricky, Gurney said. We feel we've got a big book of knowledge built up over all our races there and we think we should be very strong.-       GAINSCO, Gurney and Fogarty have also qualified well over the years at Barber.  Gurney gave GAINSCO its first pole at Barber in 2005, in what was only the teams third race, and both of the 99s race wins in Alabama came after Fogarty won the pole. Fogarty also qualified the BobStallingsCars.com No. 99 on the outside front row each of the last two years at Barber.-       GAINSCO Auto Insurance will once again host at Saturdays race several top employees who were selected by both their peers and company management to be honored in the GAINSCO Circle of Champions program. The honorees will be treated to a VIP insiders experience at the Barber track, where GAINSCO has entertained company employees and agent partners since 2007. This weekends group includes GAINSCO team members from the companys Dallas headquarters, including Ryan Stegall (Corporate Recruiter), Yashoda Gundam (IT Web Developer), Doug Conrad (Product Actuarial Analyst) and Ivan Ramirez (Customer Service Supervisor). Our supporters from GAINSCO are so passionate and enthusiastic, it doesn't matter if there is a few or a few hundred, Fogarty said. Their mojo can always be felt!  I am excited to have them once again at Barber.
