Skip Barber Racing School Honors 2 Veterans at Lime Rock Park

n coordination with Wounded Warrior Project and Extreme Bucket List, Skip Barber Racing School is proud to honor two veterans during an upcoming 1-Day Racing School on April 4, 2013 at Lime Rock Park.

Sargent Lou Tavarez initially served as a Marine during the Gulf War. After the corps, he became a New Jersey fireman and was dispatched to the World Trade Center September 11, 2001. He then re-enlisted in the Army and served in Afghanistan. For his service he earned the Combat Action Ribbon and several commendations.

When he returned home from his Army deployment in 2004, he was suffering from severe Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as well as hearing and back problems. Through the Wounded Warrior Project, Sgt. Tavarez is recovering and now wants to council returning veterans.

I want to thank Skip Barber Racing School, Wounded Warrior Project and Steve Conklin from Extreme Bucket List for making this possible," said Sgt. Tavarez. "This is the highlight of my life.  I am very excited and looking forward to it.

Specialist Kyle Pattison is active Army and recently returned from his deployment in the Middle East.

"I'm really excited to be doing this," said Spc. Pattison. "I've always wanted to drive the formula style race car. I would love to go make this a career, and it is just going to be an amazing experience for me."

Both Sgt. Tavarez and Spc. Pattison will participate in the Skip Barber 1 Day Racing School at Lime Rock Park in the classic Skip Barber formula car. During the school, they will learn about the racing line, race-style downshifting, threshold braking and cornering from outstanding Skip Barber Racing School instructors.
