The Idaq Motorsport Kawasaki Team had another good weekend at the ultra-fast Thruxton Circuit this weekend. Two of the three riders were once again in the Championship points and all three bikes in the top 20. Peter Ward brought the Idaq Motorsport Kawasaki home in ninth, James East in 13th and Paul Curran achieved 20th in the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship.
Peter Ward was once again consistent throughout the weekend but due to the terrible weather conditions on the Saturday it was impossible to get a good set up on the Idaq Kawasaki's at the testing circuit. Pete qualified in tenth place and was sat in a good position setting good lap times but the scheduled 16-lap race was cut short to nine laps after a crash caused a red flag.
Peter Ward - "It was a bit of a tough weekend this weekend and we made a lot of changes from the first qualifying but with the shocking weather on Saturday we were unable to test out the changes and therefore I ended up running the gearing I used on Friday. This was too high and I was really struggling, I think if we'd gone the full race distance I would have managed to get up to seventh place. The bike was brilliant again and it's more Championship points in the bag but just not enough dry time out on track."
James East once again showed his form and is quickly learning the art of riding the bigger Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R scoring more points for the Idaq Motorsport team. The youngster qualified in 19th place on the packed grid and was locked in a tight battle throughout the race eventually getting the better of TT star John McGuinness and Simon Andrews before the race was stopped for a great 13th place. James set the fastest speeds in both speed traps during the race.
James East - "I got a good start and managed to stay out of all the trouble at the start of the race and then tried to get my head down and settle into a rhythm. I was trying to keep away from any problems and I'm really happy with more points in the Championship. I managed to get up into the points and was making good progress when the red flag came out. We made a lot of changes to the bike during the weekend to suit my riding style and I'm really happy I've now got a good base set up on the Idaq Kawasaki. I need to get myself up there in qualifying to help me with the overall result. I must thank my mechanic Dave for everything he did this weekend he's been brilliant, also to my personal sponsors and the entire Idaq Motorsport team."
Engine builder for the team Paul Curran had another progressive weekend and made inroads from his qualifying position of 24th place to get 20th in the shortened race. Once again with the cancellation of the afternoon sessions due to the bad weather the team was limited to dry track time.
Paul Curran - "It was my own fault today I made too many mistakes early on in the race and the harder I tried the worse it became. I just need to settle down and relax more when I'm out in the race and hopefully that should help. I made the mistakes on the fast bits and I was trying to make up the time on the brakes but it just wasn't happening. My lap times were good and same as the people running in the points so I know I have the pace and I just have to put it all together, qualify well, get away at the start and then concentrate on my race craft."
Team Principal Mark Roebuck - "Qualifying positions cost us more points this weekend, in some ways we lost out as a result of the way the two qualifying groups were merged together but we mainly lost out in terms of qualifying strategy. We will be working on qualifying strategy ahead of the next meeting at Oulton Park. Again we had no real technical issues and the guys rode well, I am pleased with all three of them. Pete's gearing stopped him from pushing the guys in front as hard as he realistically could have done, James was strong enough in the race to have moved further ahead if the race had gone the full distance and a couple of mistakes by Paul took him out of the points. We are looking forward to Oulton Park where I believe we will have more strong results. I would like to thank all the team sponsors for their help in making this season possible.
