ndy Richardson will look to make further progress in his single-seater career this weekend as the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain heads to Donington Park for the second meeting of the year.
The South Lincolnshire-based 21-year-old heads into his home event on the back of an encouraging debut in the open-wheel series at Brands Hatch last month.
Despite only confirming his participation in the series the day before the first on-track action of the campaign, Andy came away from the weekend with three solid finishes to his name and having picked up valuable knowledge and experience of the his all-new Ford EcoBoost-powered Mygale.
On the back of the season opener, Andy and the Richardson Racing team have worked hard to make improvements to the new car, with hopes high of now continuing the progress made at Brands Hatch during the weekend ahead.
Thursday testing at the East Midlands venue gave Andy the chance to see what impact the changes made to the car have had and despite some niggling issues over the course of the day, he now heads into the weekend in confident mood.
There were a few little things we had to deal with during testing but overall it went okay, he said. We were able to put in some consistent laps and it was all about focusing on what we had planned and seeing what impact the changes weve made have had, rather than on chasing a time.
As well as giving the car a new livery for this weekend, weve done a lot of work since Brands Hatch based on the knowledge we gained there, and I think we can look forward to a stronger showing as a result. We are well aware that there is still a lot of work to do, and that there is still more to come, but the target for Donington Park is to start pushing for results.
"My aim is to try and push towards the midfield in qualifying, and if we can start challenging for a place in the top six this weekend, then I think well be making good progress.
As was the case at Brands Hatch, Andy will be in action three times during the Donington Park weekend, with qualifying at 9.30 on Saturday being followed by the opening 20 minute long race at 14.40.
Two further 20 minute long races are then scheduled for Sunday at 9.25 and 15.07.
